George Leonard Anderson, Jr., 87, formerly of Superior, WI, died Sunday, July 8, 2018 in Mesa, AZ. He was born on February 25, 1931 to George and Grace (Reingruber) Anderson in Superior, WI.
He graduated East High School in 1949 and from UWS-Lacrosse in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. George served his country in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant from 1951-1955.
He worked as a switchman on the former Soo Line Railroad and served as President of Metro Credit Union until his retirement in 1995. He was an avid golfer and hosted the Miller Team Championship Calcutta Golf Tournament out at Nemadji Golf Course on Labor Day Weekend for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John (Jackie) Anderson of California; sisters, Maxine (Donald) Seims of California and Geraldine (Willus) Stream of Superior; a son, Kristopher Anderson, Apple Valley, MN and his longtime companion, Carol Orloski.
George is survived by one daughter, Kelly (Richard) Horvatich, Queen Creek, AZ; two sons, Kevin and Kip Anderson of Superior; five grandchildren, Kimberly Anderson, Derrick Horvatich, Jacob Anderson, Jordan Anderson, and Gunnar Anderson and one great-grandchild, Abby Horvatich.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Friday, August 24, 2018 at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5
th
Street, Superior. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Superior. Military Honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard at 11:45 AM at the funeral home.
