Family and friends will gather on Saturday, August 17, 2019, to honor the life of George Eugene Hill, 94, of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Superior, followed by a joint burial for George and his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Hill, who passed away in May 2014 .
George passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, February 14, 2019, in San Diego, Calif., with his family by his side. He was born on March 24, 1924, in Maple, Wis, to Charles and Selma (Soyring) Hill.
George worked at US Steel in Waukegan, Ill. for 32 years as a Stranding Operator before retiring in 1980.
He married Betty Lebeck March 5, 1974, in Waukegan, Ill. and celebrated 40 years of marriage before her death. In 2015, he moved to San Diego to be closer to his daughter and her family.
George remained the embodiment of Finnish Sisu by fighting to the end with his classic determination and stubbornness.
Visitation for George will begin at 11 a.m. until the 12 Noon memorial service on Saturday, August 17 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th St., Superior, with Pastor Victor St. George of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating.
George's grandson, Neil Johnson will be recognized as an honorary pallbearer.
Burial for George and Betty will be held at Greenwood Cemetery following the service.
