George N. Eskolin, 85, Superior, died Monday, October 18, 2010 in St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth.
He was born on May 3, 1925 in Maple, WI to Nestor and Elsa (Nordstrom) Eskolin.
He married Mary Aschenbauer on August 31, 1957 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Bayfield, WI.
He was employed on the Great Lakes for Pickands-Mather, The Interlake Steamship Company retiring, as a captain, in 1987 with over forty years of service.
George was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, the Shipmasters Association and the Harbor Club.
He was a lifelong member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #80, of Superior.
George will always be remembered as a very caring and loving gentleman, who always enjoyed helping his family and others.
In addition to his wife Mary, George is survived by one daughter, Gayla (Joe, Ceccacci, Galveston, TX; one son, Jim (Pam) Eskolin, New Brighton, MN; five grandchildren, AmyJo (Eddie Zuniga) Ceccacci, Janna (Chris Vela) Ceccacci, Travis Ceccacci, Matthew Eskolin and Meghan Eskolin; three great-grandchildren, Emerald, Destiny and Valerie Zuniga.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM until the 12 Noon Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 23, 2010 in Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as the celebrant.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
