George Johnstone

George Johnstone, 80, Superior resident, died Friday, August 19, 2016 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth surrounded by family.

He was born on December 24, 1935 in Superior, WI to Francis and Germaine (Gotelaere) Johnstone.

He graduated from the former Cathedral High School in 1954.

George served his country in the United States Army.

George attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He was a life member of the Belgium Club,member of the Eagle’s Club and the American Legion. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed running marathons, hunting, golfing and bowling.

George is survived by his significant other, Audrey for over fourteen years; two sons, George (Stephanie) Johnstone and Paul Johnstone, both of CA; two grandchildren, Audrey and Julia; one sister, Janice (LeRoy) Schultek, CA; four brothers, Tom (Addie) Johnstone, Superior, WI, Patrick (Joanne) Johnstone, IN, James (Cindy) Johnstone and Terry (Sue) Johnstone, both of Superior, WI and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski as celebrant.

The Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5 ^th Street, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
