George “Pete” Mackey, 81, longtime Barnes area resident formerly of Superior, died Saturday, November 28, 2015 at St Luke’s Hospital Hospice, Duluth, MN.
He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 20, 1934 the son of Fred and Emily (Niemi) Mackey.
George was employed as an Industrial gas service technician for Superior Light and Power for over thirty years.
He was a member of Barnes Community Church; I.E.B.W Union affiliated with S.W.L. & Power. He previously worked for the Soo Line Railway.
George was an avid outdoors man enjoyed hunting, fishing and canoeing the Brule River. He also enjoyed trips to Canada.
He was a great cook and avid Packer fan.
George was proud of his Finnish heritage, remembered for his SISU and he loved to Sauna.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley, Barnes, WI; one daughter, Pam (Thomas) Wille, Danbury, WI; one son, Kent (Darlene Martin) Mackey, Barnes, WI; five grandchildren, Jason Wille, Denette (Aaron) Moser, Shanna (Andy) Taylor, Erin Mackey and Mark Mackey; eight great-grandchildren, Bella, Brianna, Brogen, Brady, Bryce, Sylvie, Sadie, Mac; and several nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gene Mackey and Dale Mackey.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM, Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Barnes Community Church in Barnes, WI and will continue until the 12:30 PM, Memorial Service Pastor Jon Hartman, officiating.
Burial will be in Barnes Cemetery at a later date.
George's family would like to thank Drs. Gene Karwoski and Jarrod Buresh and St. Luke's Hospice for their wonderful care of George.
