George E. White

George Elmer White, 92, longtime resident of Superior, WI, died Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth. He was born on May 25, 1925 in Oelwein, IA to Elmer M. and Louise M. (Zinzer) White.

He was a graduate of the George Weitbrecht Mechanic Arts High School, class of 1943. After high school he enlisted into active service with the United States Navy and served his country on the USS West Virginia as a Ships Cook 2 ^nd Class. In 1949 he enrolled in the Allied School of Mechanical Trades, Chicago, IL and later graduated with his Bachelors in Science degree in Accounting from the Walton School of Commerce, Chicago, IL in 1952.

He was employed with the Northfield, MN Post Office for seven years before transferring to Superior in 1970 where he retired in 1988 after twenty-seven years of service. George was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Superior and a lifelong member of the V.F.W.  He enjoyed fishing, bowling and playing bingo.

He is survived by his two nieces, Sandra (Mike) Strouse and Cindy White and several cousins in the St. Paul, Chicago and California area. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Franklin Carl White, Grass Valley, CA.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 4315 East Third Street, Superior and will continue until the 11:00 AM  Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Adam Laski as celebrant. Military Honors will be accorded at the church by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery in St. Paul, MN. Should friends desire, memorials may be made in George’s name to Cathedral School.
