Gerald "Jerry" R. Johnson

Gerald “Jerry” Robert Johnson, 80, of Superior, died Thursday, February 25, 2021, at Villa Marina Health & Rehabilitation in Superior. He contracted COVID-19 mid-December and was unable to recover from it. He was born on December 17, 1940, in Superior, the son of Verner “Cook” and Eunice (Gratton) Johnson.

Jerry graduated from East High School in 1959 and moved to Minneapolis, working at Honeywell, where he met Dorothy Fiedler. They married in Little Falls, MN in 1961. They moved to Superior in 1966, where he worked for Murphy Oil Corp. until his retirement in 2000. He also owned and operated Jerry’s Implement for many years and was a salesman for Little Falls Granite. The family also ran a hobby farm at 4-Corners.

Jerry spent thousands of hours in his workshop doing everything from mechanics to woodworking. For many years he enjoyed fishing and hunting. On April 22, 2005, he became a heart and kidney transplant recipient and following that volunteered with the local transplant support group, actively promoting organ donation.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Ruth Moorhouse, brother Richard, sister Joanne, son Stephen and daughter-in-law Merry “Beth” Lossing.

Gerald is survived by his wife Dorothy; sons, Michael and David (Jillene); grandchildren, Bradley, Zachary (Mikayla Sasser), Brian (Hannah Wells), Victoria; great-grandson, William Gerald Johnson; sister, Cheryl (Ryan) Jost and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Parish, 2316 E 4th St., Superior. Saturday, July 24. Visitation at 1:00, Mass of Christian burial at 2:00.
