Gerald R. Schnell passed away peacefully at NCH Baker Hospital in Naples, FL January 3, 2021, with his devoted wife Mary and sons by his side. Jerry was the son of Raymond and Patricia (Grant) Schnell, born Dec. 21, 1944, in Superior, Wisconsin. He graduated from Superior Cathedral High School and attended UW-Superior. Jerry met the love of his life in high school, they married on July 22, 1966, and raised 2 boys, enjoying 54 years of marriage. His career was always bedded in the Beverage Industry. They say if you love your work, you aren’t really working, and that was Jerry. He loved people, serving them, laughing with them, and simply enjoying them. He was inducted into the UW-Superior Hall of Fame for his loyal support of the Yellowjackets in 2013. All his life he supported local athletics. He was active in the Shriners for many years. He is survived by his wife Mary E. Schnell, sons Richard (Traci) Schnell, William (Aundra Swanson) Schnell, Superior, WI, 4 grandchildren Allison (Justin) O’Connell, Daniel Schnell, Sabrina Schnell, Zachary (Melissa) Schnell, 2 great-grandchildren Lennan and Aili O’Connell, brother John (Sara) Schnell, Weeki Wachee, FL, stepmother Elayne Schnell in Hayward, WI, sister-in-law Jane (John) Mallak, Hutchinson, MN, brother-in-law Frank (Jane) Nixon, Two Harbors, MN, sister-in-law Karen (Michael) Kraft, Superior, WI, and brother-in-law, Paul Byrnes, Superior, WI. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Patricia Schnell; son Jay Frances Schnell (passed away at birth), brother James L. Schnell, sister Janet Nindorf and brother-in-law Don Nindorf.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, 1111 Belknap Street, Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
