Gerald "Jerry" Zowin, 81, passed peacefully into heaven on Saturday, February 5th with his loving wife of soon to be 59 years, and his sons by his side.

He was born on December 30, 1940 in Superior, the son of Robert and Margaret (Vercammen) Zowin,

Jerry grew up in Superior, WI where he attended East High School and worked at Pooler Drug store in East End.  "Fuzzy" was his high school nickname.  Whether it was playing cards, golf or vacationing, Jerry cherished his friendships, and they were always a vital part of his life.

Following Jerry’s high school graduation in 1958, he enlisted in the US Navy and became an electrician on the USS Fort Snelling.  He was honored and proud to serve his country.  Jerry proudly wore his USS Fort Snelling baseball hat daily until the day he passed.

Upon his return home from his service, Jerry married the love of his life "Dugan" Jean Johansen and shortly thereafter started their family. While supporting his family working at Duluth Avionics, he also worked part-time as a projectionist at the Beacon and Stardust Drive-In theaters. While maintaining his professional career, Jerry attended UW-Superior and graduated with a major in Business and Accounting.  He then pursued an opportunity with Travelers Insurance, later created a career change with Wausau Insurance where he remained until his retirement as Director of Finance in 1998.

Jerry also had an entrepreneurial spirit. Inspired by his love of family camping, he developed and built the KOA Campground in Hayward, WI where he owned and operated the campground for 16 years.

Jerry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and friend.  His value and commitment to his family was evident during camping trips, vacations and spending countless hours at hockey rinks and athletic fields coaching, watching and supporting his boys and grandkids. Spending quality time with his grandchildren was always a priority, especially at the family cabin in Hayward. This was a special time for Jerry.  He loved teaching his grandkids how to catch chipmunks, frogs, turtles and shoot bb guns. The cabin was also a place where he enjoyed family time, playing cribbage, texas hold-em and other card games. Jerry recently expressed a fond memory of his bowling couples league in Superior, team name “Goofy Grapes.” Jerry and Dugan, Bonnie and Tom Rotsaert which created fabulous fun memories while competing with the rest of CoolAid Icons.

He is survived by his wife Jean "Dugan"; sons David, Waupaca WI, Bryan (Theresa), Peoria IL, and Chad (Anne), Forest Lake, MN; brothers, Jack (Francis), of CA, Rick, Elk River, MN, and Steve (Kathy), Wisconsin Dells; grandchildren, Rachel, Alex, Alexis, Stephen, Anthony, Sophia, Jacob, Jenna and Ellie.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret Zowin; brothers, Tom and Donnie.
