Gertrude E. “Gert” Payton, 78, longtime Superior resident, died Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth.
She was born on December 22, 1934 in Superior, WI to Edwin and Jennie (Dugan) Anderson.
Gert was a sales rep for Duluth Paper and Specialties retiring in 1995 after twenty-seven years of service. She also was a hostess at the Hammond Steak House for twenty years.
She was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church.
Gert had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved her family dearly and her daughter Siobhan was her best friend and she fought hard right to the very end.
Gert is survived by her daughter, Siobhan and one brother, William Anderson, Cape Coral, FL and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her son Shaun in September of 2004, two brothers Edwin J. and George Anderson, sister Jeanne Grammond and her parents.
The family would like to thank everyone at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Duluth 4th floor, surgery department and 1st floor hospice for the kindness they showed to the family and a special thanks to Siobhan’s family support to help her though this difficult time.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 9, 2013 at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, 1111 Belknap Street, Superior and continue until the 12:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci and Rev. Fr. James Tobolski as concelebrants.
Burial will be Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.
Pallbearers for the service will be Gert’s nephews.
The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
