Gilbert A. Semanko, 87, longtime Poplar/Maple, WI area resident died Friday, April 8, 2016 at Northern Residence of Hawthorne in South Range, WI.
He was born on April 4, 1929 in Cadotte, WI to John and Blanche (Dougherty) Semanko.
He graduated from the former Superior Cathedral High School.
He was employed as a truck driver for Chun King and Jeno’s for many years. He also was a farmer in Maple raising beef cattle. Gilbert bought Busters Café in Maple and renamed it Sundown Café and owned and operated it for ten years from 1965-1975. Later in life he ran different rentals under the name Town and Country Rentals.
Gilbert was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the Teamsters Union.
Gilbert is survived by two daughters, Sherry (David) Burton, Redlands, CA and Rena (Brett) Nelson, Iron River, WI; two sons, Terry (Shelly) Semanko, Poplar, WI and Todd (Kathy) Semanko, Iron River, WI; fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sons Larry and Jerry Semanko, great-granddaughter Ava Maday, brothers Lloyd and Donny and a sister Arlene Urich.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 11648 E. County Road B, Lake Nebagamon, WI and continue until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Adam Laski as celebrant.
Burial will be in Lake Nebagamon Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers for the service will be the truck drivers from Chun King and Jeno’s.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kevin and Athena and the staff at Northern Residence of Hawthorne for their wonderful care they gave to Gilbert and his family.
