Glen R. Lindahl, 81, lifelong Poplar, WI area resident, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011 in the Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on November 2, 1929 in Superior to Larry and Elsie (Lindquist) Lindahl.
He graduated in 1947 from the former Poplar High School in Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin.
He served as a corporal in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from November 1951 to November 1953.
He married Carol Lundeen on September 12, 1959 in Poplar and recently celebrated fifty-one years of marriage.
Glen was a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, and also served as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the men’s group. He was a member of the Poplar-Wentworth Lions Club, the Bong-Hofstedt American Legion Post #409; the Charles David Williams VFW Post #10490 of South Range, WI; “Lay Z Elk” Lodge in Rifle, CO and the N.R.A.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, campfires, snowmobiling, riding motorcycles and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
He was a truck driver for Lloyd Erickson of Poplar; a self-employed logger for many years and he was a co-owner and one of the original founders of Brule Sports and Ski Doo Shop in Brule, Wisconsin.
In addition to his wife Carol, Glen is survived by three sons, Brad (Cathy) Lindahl, Glendora, CA, Jim (Debbie) Lindahl, Windsor, CO, Lance Lindahl, Poplar, WI; five grandchildren, Travis, Matthew, Nathan, Abigail and Clara; one sister, Geraldine Scheufeli; one brother, Gerald (Carlyse) Lindahl, his mother-in-law, Mary Lundeen, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM until the 1:00 PM Funeral Service on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Peace Lutheran Church in Poplar, WI with Pastor Greg Gullicksrud, officiating.
Interment will be in Poplar Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Charles David Williams VFW Post #10490 and the Bong-Hofstedt American Legion Post #409.
