Glenn A. Rathbun

May 10, 1921 — October 3, 2019

Glenn A. Rathbun, 98, resident of St. Cloud, MN, died Thursday, October 3, 2019 at St. Cloud VA Health Care System. He was born in Superior, May 10, 1921, the son of Asa and Elma (Anderson) Rathbun.

Glenn served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.

He married Dorothy Hughes on November 17, 1972 and they celebrated twenty-three years of marriage before her passing in 1995.

He worked as a switchman for the Great Northern Railroad and, later he was yard master at DM & IR. He also worked at The Evening Telegram, National Lab and Physicians Mutual Insurance Co.

Glenn was a former member of the Elks Lodge. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, and loved playing cribbage and spending time with his family and friends. He was known to be a jokester and was always happy.

Glenn is survived by his children, Patricia “Pat” (David) Frederickson, St. Cloud, MN and Michael (Judy) Rathbun, De Pere, WI; stepchildren, Bonnie (Darryll) Roberg, of Cotton, MN and Superior, WI, Kathleen Hesse, Coon Rapids, MN, and Mike (Sue) Hughes, of Duluth, MN and Northport, FL; nine grandchildren, Kelly Jo (Bob) Potter, Connie (Paul) Dlugosch, Jon (Sue) Frederickson, Kristen Frederickson, Tana (Todd) Carey, Karen (David) Quilling, David Rathbun, Joe (Amanda) Herman and Nick Herman; eleven great-grandchildren, Alycia Potter, John (Kat), Mariah and Ciara Dlugosch, Joseph (Taylor) Dlugosch, Samuel Frederickson, Tierna Vanderheyden, Joe (Erica) Carey, Ryan and Tyler Stock, and Kayla Frick; seven great great-grandchildren, Aniya, Faith and Emelia Evens, Conor and Sophia Carey, Haylee Dlugosch, and Landon Herman; several nieces and nephews, including special niece and nephew, Nancy Drown, Portland, ME, and Ernie (Ginny) Strum, Lake Havasu, AZ; eight step-grandchildren, Mike (Natasha) Roberg, Jill (Lance) Carstens, Stacy (Kevin) McCormick, Chad (Lindsey) Roberg, Arron Hesse, Aimee (Steve) Martens, Matt (Lori) Hughes and Caley Hughes; fourteen step-great-grandchildren, Jessann Roberg, Reese and Lauren Carstens, Nick Renville, Alanna and Luke McCormick, Luke Hughes, Piper and Sawyer Roberg, Colin, Carley, and Christian Martins, and Alexi Belkin.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tad Rathbun; sister, Blanche Strum; and first wife and mother to his children, Lorraine Davidowski (1987).

Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 26, 2019, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 4315 East 3 rd Street, Superior, and will continue until the 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Lee Flaherty as celebrant.

Military Honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.

Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Cemetery in Duluth, MN.
