Gloria Mae Debruyne

April 19, 1927 — September 25, 2019

Gloria Mae DeBruyne, 92, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2019 at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN. Gloria was born in Superior, WI on April 19, 1927 to Osmond and Ragna (Rude) Johnson.

She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Gayle DeBruyne on September 2, 1950 and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2011.

She grew up in the East End of Superior and graduated from East High School and from the University of Wisconsin-Superior with a degree in teaching.

Gloria and Gayle raised their family in Superior and retired in Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin in 1989, a place they both treasured.

Gloria was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who showed her unconditional love each day of her life to all of those who meant the world to her, especially her family.

She is survived by her children, Cheryl (Michael Fetter) Kelly, Susan (Jim Warn) DeBruyne, Philip (Val) DeBruyne, Nancy (Bryan Rydberg) DeBruyne, Paul (Anne) DeBruyne; granddaughter, Erin (Ian) McConnell Benton; and great-grandson, Felix Benton.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gayle; parents; sister, Ruby Donovan; brother, Raymond Johnson; and son-in-law, Thomas Kelly.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Solvay Hospice House for the outstanding and compassionate care for Gloria in her final days.

Gloria’s faith was extremely important to her throughout her lifetime.

At Gloria’s request there will be no public services; a private family service will be held with Pastor Darrell Kyle of Trinity Lutheran Church of Lake Nebagamon.

Mom … no words can express how much you are going to be missed in our lives.
