Gloria G. Johnson

Gloria G. Johnson, age 88, longtime Superior resident, died Monday, September 20, 2021 at Essentia Health – St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN surrounded by family. She was born on October 16, 1932 in Seely, WI to Edward and Leola (Simons) Sonby.

She graduated in 1950 from the former Central High School in Superior.

Gloria married Carl Johnson, the love of her life, on April 17, 1953. They were happily married for 68 years and had two children, Todd and Diane Johnson.

Gloria and Carl owned the Harbor Garage where she was the bookkeeper for many years. She was a member of the Girls Luncheon Group from the Class of 1950 and loved getting together with her longtime friends. Gloria loved traveling, especially to Hawaii, reading and doing jigsaw puzzles.

She is survived by her husband, Carl; daughter Diane Johnson, both of Superior, WI; brothers-in-law, Jim (Diane) and Robert (Susan) Johnson; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and longtime close personal friends, Dick and Barb Karlon.

Gloria is proceeded in death by her parents, son, Todd Johnson; and her sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Fred Johnson.

At the request of Gloria, there will be no funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gloria’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
