Grace Smestad

Grace Smestad, a lifelong resident of Superior, passed away on August 16 after a lengthy illness, with her husband of 50 years, Walter Smestad, at her side. Grace was a lifelong resident of Superior and was a member of the first class to graduate from the new Superior Senior High School in 1966.

Grace worked at a number of jobs over the course of her life, but especially enjoyed the service industry, working as a bartender up until her illness forced her to retire several years ago. Grace was loved by her customers and many friends and family for her wit, charm, and loving nature. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lois and Zenas Cole, and her son, Eric Smestad.

She is survived by her husband, Walter Smestad of Superior; her brother, Steve Cole and his wife Sue of Hoyt Lakes, MN; her son, Brian Smestad and his wife Kit of Baldwin, Wisconsin; her daughter, Sheila Combs, of Janesville, Wisconsin; four grandsons, Eric and Sam Combs and Wyatt and Vaughan Smestad; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be a public visitation at 11:30 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church and the funeral at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25.
