Grace Maurine Williamson Scott, 99, of Superior passed away peacefully on September 20, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Superior.
Grace was born on November 9, 1909 in Hobart, OK to Frank and Ola Williamson.
Grace tragically lost her father at age nine and was humbly raised on a farm in Missouri with her three siblings. Her mother saw to it that all four children received college educations which enabled them to prevail through times of depression and war.
She graduated from high school in 1927 in Kirksville, MO and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Northern Missouri State Teachers’ College in 1932. She taught high school English and physical education in Bloomer, WI, and also taught at the Eau Claire Vocational School. Grace performed graduate studies at the University of Chicago and the University of Arizona.
Grace was married to Dr. C.M. Scott, a physician in the Eau Claire area. Together they raised four sons.
Grace was an active member of the Lutheran Church and D.A.R. in Eau Claire; was passionate about politics and world events, and loved to watch the news channels. Grace was an adventurous lady for her time. She traveled the world, skied, canoed in the BWCA and enjoyed riding snowmobiles with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing the piano. Her smile lit up her face, her laugh was infectious and she gave great hugs which made her loved by many.
She is survived by her four sons, Clarence M., Richard W. (Rosanne), Ronald K. (Julia) of Superior and Lance L. of Eau Claire; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Eloise and grandson, Mark Peter.
There will be a private memorial celebration of life by the family.
The family would like to thank the Golden Living Center and St. Mary’s Hospice for the care they lovingly gave to Grace.
The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
