Gust E. Van Driessche

Gust E. Van Driessche, 95, Superior, died peacefully, Sunday, July 10, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family.


He was born in Superior on March 29, 1916 to Peter and Elodie (de Puysseleyr) Van Driessche.

He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and a life member of the Belgium Club.

He married Lois “Babe” Thorson on August 19, 1945 in Spooner, WI and they celebrated sixty-five years of marriage.

Gust was the owner/operator of the Allouez Garage for over sixty years.

In addition to his wife Babe, Gust is survived by two daughters, Cathy (Gerry) Van Driessche Beauchamp, Superior, Julie (Jim) Bender, Rice Lake, WI; two sons, Jim (Patricia) Van Driessche, Largo, FL, Randy (Connie) Van Driessche, Superior and ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, Heidi and Craig Boyer and their children, Bradley, Alayna and Laura; Jesse and Lindsay Shimek and their children, Aleigha and Taylee; Colleen and Robbie Stulz; Sarah and Riley Radcliffe and their children, Taylor, Natalie, James and Liberty; Jessica and Craig Morrill and their child, Carson; Steve Collins; Andy and Samantha Collins, with baby Chase on the way and Brian Collins; Tommy and Sara Van Driessche and their children, Justin and Ben and Jason and Jill Radtke and their child, Cooper.

He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas; his parents, one sister, Mary Haeck; one brother, Louis Van Driessche and two infant step-sisters.

Per Gust’s request, no public services are being held.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Essentia Health Hospice Unit in Duluth, MN.
