Harold V. Baertlein

Harold V. Baertlein, 95, former longtime Superior area resident, died Monday, November 18, 2013 at Our House Assisted Living in Wausau, WI.

He was born on September 12, 1918 in Rice Lake, WI to Val and Margaret (Anacker) Baertlein.

He graduated from high school and served with the Civilian Conservation Corps for three years. Harold served his country during World War II in the United States Army.

He was a driver for St. Vincent de Paul for many years.

Harold was a member of Holy Assumption Catholic Church. He loved oil painting and wood carving, and writing poetry. He was very passionate about communicating through his art work.

Harold is survived by five sons, Val (Elizabeth) Baertlein, Minneapolis, MN, Franz Baertlein, Adelphi, TX, Mark (Teresa) Baertlein, Wausau, WI, Gill Baertlein, Reno, NV and Earl Baertlein, Minneapolis, MN; eight grandchildren, Erica, Rachel and Sarah Jacobson, Neil, Paul, Rebecca, Holly and Janelle Baertlein; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Murelyn Stone, Eau Claire, WI; brother, Max (Delores) Baertlein, Independence, WI and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Gabrielle in 2000, a daughter Rosemary and son-in-law Rolfe Jacobson in 2001, and sister Julia Gindt.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Holy Assumption Catholic Church, 5601 Tower Avenue, Superior and continue until the 12:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Ronald Olson as celebrant.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Superior.

Military Honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.

Pallbearers for the service will be Val, Mark, Gill, Earl, Neil, and Paul Baertlein.

The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
