Harold M. Hanson, 87, lifelong Lakeside,WI resident, died Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Middle River Health & Rehabilitation Center in South Range, WI. He was born on April 6, 1929 in Superior, WI to Herman and Mabel (Byhre) Hanson.
He was the owner/operator of his family beef cattle farm in Lakeside. In addition to farming, Harold retired as a conductor for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad after forty-five years. He also sailed on the Great Lakes, had a logging business, was a commercial fisherman and a civilian employee for the government.
He is preceded in death by his wife Eloyce Hanson, daughter Peggy Love, his parents, sisters Dolores Lundberg and Alma Batcheller, brothers James, Glen and Lloyd Hanson and grandson Sean Summers.
Harold is survived by his longtime friend and companion, Miina Helske; two sons, Daniel (Linda) O’Hara and Kevin (Joanne) O’Hara; four grandchildren, Angela O’Hara, Jennifer (Beck) Rakochevich, John (Mandy) Pooler, RaeJean Love and seven great-grandchildren, Timothy O’Hara, Lily Rakochevich, Adeline and Henry Pooler and London, Maxwell and Brett Summers and one sister, Jean Shea, Falls Church, VA and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 10, 2016 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street, Superior and continue until the 12:00 PM memorial service with Pastor Sarah Kerkes of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be Lakeside Cemetery in the Town of Lakeside, WI.
Pallbearers for the service will be John Pooler, Timothy O’Hara, Mike, Tim, Glen and Gary Hanson.
