Helen T. Ernst, 91, longtime Superior area resident formerly of Lake Nebagamon, WI and Spicer, MN died Sunday, March 20, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota. She was born in Corydon, IA on April 29, 1924, the daughter of Ray and May (Liley) Thomas.
Helen was a member of the Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer, MN; she attended the Mission Covenant Church in Poplar, WI and the Sunday morning services at the Lighthouse of Superior.
She loved music, played the piano and organ. Helen loved traveling with her husband and was an avid reader. Helen taught second grade in Highland, IL where she met her husband Jim. Helen and Jim were owners and operators of Camp La Rue, a vacation resort on Nest Lake in Spicer, MN. She was a lifetime member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and the Spicer Veterans Auxiliary.
She is survived by one daughter, Kathy (Tim) Paulson, Leesburg, FL; two sons, Ed (Becky) Ernst, Leesburg, FL and Tom (Kay) Ernst, Cookeville, TN and Lake Minnesuing, WI; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim and her brother Dr. Merle Thomas.
Visitation will be at 9:30 AM until the 10:00 AM service of remembrance on Tuesday March 22, 2016 at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street, Superior, WI followed by a family internment in Spicer, MN next to her husband.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local hospice in remembrance of Helen and Jim.
