Helen P. (Moreau) Schmidt, 93, longtime Superior area resident died at her daughter’s home in Duluth, Minnesota on Friday, November 4, 2011.
She was born on August 9, 1918 in Langdon, North Dakota, the daughter of Hellek and Jenny (Staven) Helleckson.
Helen was a longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Superior and a former longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Superior Moose Club # 606; Navy Mothers; a previous member of “Pocahontas” Club and she loved to polka.
Helen loved reading, crocheting, knitting, sewing, baking and enjoyed playing cards.
She is survived by three daughters, Lorraine Craft, Eugene, Oregon; Linda (Michael) Pelletier, Superior, WI and Sheila (Bob) Ruse, Duluth, MN; one son, Leonard (Cynthia) Moreau, Lake Nebagamon, WI; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; eight stepchildren; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Harriet Puls, Central Point, Oregon and several nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her first husband, Casper Moreau; her second husband, Paul Schmidt; two sons, Kenneth Moreau and Thomas Moreau; one daughter, Betty Jean Moreau; her parents, Hellek and Jenny Helleckson; four sisters and three brothers.
Helen was very loved by all who knew her and will be sadly missed by her entire family.
Visitation will began at 10:00 AM, Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 5821 John Ave, Superior, and continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service with Pastor Gary Garnatz, officiating.
Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Superior.
Helen’s grandchildren will be recognized as honorary pallbearers.
The Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 East 5th Street, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
