Helen Swanson

Helen E. Swanson, 92, lifelong Port Wing, WI resident, died Thursday, September 3, 2009 in St. Francis Home in the Park. She was born on January 24, 1917 in Chicago, IL and was raised from infancy by Nels Peter and Anna Swanson.
She and her husband Orville owned and operated the Willow Creek Farm for many years before he passed away on April 8, 2009.
Helen was a longtime active member of First Lutheran Church in Port Wing. She loved working on the farm along side of her husband and she enjoyed cooking, crocheting and embroidering. She greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Helen is survived by three daughters, Ann Marie (Robert S.) Johnson, Superior, Sandra (Laurie) Rasimaki, Port Wing, WI, Glenda (Jim) Koski, Memphis, TN; one son Jim (Marcia) Swanson, Port Wing, WI; thirteen grandchildren, Stuart Johnson, Superior, David (Michelle) Johnson, Farmington, MN, Chad (Denelle) Johnson, Superior, Cory (Stephanie) Johnson, Superior, Brenda (David) Hughes, Aurora, MN, Tracy (Kevin) Lott, Superior, Loren (Melissa) Koski, Hattiesburg, MS, Jason Koski, Memphis, TN, Steve Koski, Memphis, TN, Howard (Mandy) Wade, Winthrop Harbor, IL, Stacy Burgau, Ellsworth, WI, Bev (Bob) Tapani, Oulu, WI and Dana (Darren McClure) Belcher, Superior; twenty-one great-grandchildren; one niece Mary Ellen "Cookie" Berning, Minot, ND and several nephews.
In addition to her husband Orville, she was preceded in death by a son Jerome in 1996; her parents and a sister, Dorothy Okerstrom who was 100 years old.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Monday, September 7, 2009 until the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM in the First Lutheran Church in Port Wing, WI.
Pastor Nancy Hanson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Port Wing, WI.
