Henry L. "Tiger" Nelson, 66, Poplar, died Friday, November 20, 2009, unexpectedly in his home. He was born on August 14, 1943 in Superior to Levi and Madeline (Nollet) Nelson.
He graduated from Northwestern High School.
Tiger married Donna Peterson on September 30, 1961 in Superior and celebrated forty-eight years of marriage.
He was employed as an operator for the Village of Poplar for forty-eight years.
He was a member of the Poplar Volunteer Fire Department for forty-eight years and served as the chief for the past twenty-five years.
Tiger had an avid interest in aviation, aeronautics and NASA. He enjoyed operating and teaching others how to operate remote control airplanes. He loved four-wheeling and playing softball. He also enjoyed animals and was an avid smear player.
Tiger was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friends to many. He was known as a man with a kind heart and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
In addition to his wife Donna, Tiger is survived by two daughters, Wanda (Robert) Amoth, Poplar, Wendy (Shawn Dalbec) Nelson, Poplar; two sons, Brian (Jill Weinandt) Nelson, Poplar, Brad "Beak" (Terri) Nelson, Poplar; four grandchildren, Bridgett, Kristine, Felicia and Brandon; one sister, Gloria Worlow, Groverton, IN; one brother, Patrick "Rick" Nelson, Superior; his father-in-law, Everett Peterson, SR., Onalaska, WI and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Lillian Peterson; a niece Shelley Meyer and a brother-in-law, Calvin Worlow.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 28, 2009 until the 11:30 AM Memorial Service in the Mission Covenant Church. Pastor Darrell Nelson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Poplar Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Everett "Bud" Peterson, Tom Nollet, Jerry Nollet, Pat Grube, Byron "Buzzy" Little, Jeff Nevin, Sr. and members of the Poplar Volunteer Fire Department.
