Herbert “Herb” E. Magnuson, 94, Gordon, WI resident, died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, December 18, 2020 in Gordon, WI. He was born on May 27, 1926 in Taylor Falls, MN to Emil and Gertrude (Vadman) Magnuson.
Herb served his country in the United States Army. He was a maintenance worker for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. He previously worked as a mechanic for Douglas County and Larson Chevrolet, maintenance for Coldwell Banker/Van Vleck-Clemens, truck driver for Fullerton Lumber and owned and operated Magnuson’s 66 Service Station in South Superior, WI. He also loved working for his brother, Warren at his Gold Mine in Gaines Creek, Alaska.
Herb married Verna Hughes, the love of his life on May 17, 1946 in Carlton, MN and celebrated seventy-four years of marriage. Herb and his wife Verna enjoyed their home he built in the Pattison Park area for over sixty-two years.
Herb is survived by his wife, Verna; daughter, Gail (Jack) Kaarto, Gordon, WI; son, Kelly (Linn) Magnuson, Knapp, WI; five grandchildren, Richard (Cindy) Magnuson, Rosemont, MN, Jeremy (Kim) Magnuson, Deer River, MN, Carla (Justin Rock) Magnuson, Hibbing, MN; Kelly Michael (Crystal Brown) Magnuson, Foxboro, WI and Jason (Al Schombs) Nummi, San Diego, CA; twelve great-grandchildren, Loren, Nick, Jeremy, Colton, Chase, Tyler, Samantha, Amber, Skyler, Cassie, Stephen and Cadance; four great great-grandchildren, Melody, Owen, Tessa and Keegan who was born on Grandpa Herb’s birthday and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ellen Stuart and Evelyn Scott, brothers Lloyd, Warren, Vincent, Ed and Leland Magnuson.
Herb will be remembered as kind, generous, caring and compassionate person and was always willing to help anyone in need. Every time someone would leave he always had a comment “Take er cool”.
A Celebration of Life and Legacy will be held in the spring at a time that concides with what would have been Herb’s 95 th birthday and their 75 th wedding anniversary.

A Celebration of Life and Legacy will be held for Herb and Verna at 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at the family home, 14039 S. Eau Claire Acres Circle in Gordon, WI. A potluck will be offered and meat will be provided. Should friends desire, please bring a dish to share. Military Honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
