Hester Marie Bacheller

March 13, 1928 — April 28, 2011

Hester Bacheller, wife of the late Commander Frank Bacheller, passed away at Alvarado Hospital on April 28, 2011, after a brief illness.

Hester is survived by a daughter, Deborah Laidlaw, of Long Beach, CA, a granddaughter, Kate Prueher, of Virginia Beach, VA, and a grandson, Sean Birch, of San Diego.

Hester was born and raised in Superior, Wisconsin and trained as a teacher.

She moved to San Diego in 1951.

After retirement, Hester and Frank built their dream house in La Mesa, where Hester spent the rest of her life.

She was a fan of both the Chargers and the Padres, ever optimistic and often disappointed but faithful to the teams to the end.

One of her last evenings at home was spent with her family watching the Padres go down to defeat one more time.

Although a resident of La Mesa for over 40 years, she regularly vacationed at her family's cabin at Minong, Wisconsin.

Hester was a member of Alanon, where she provided counsel and support for women dealing with alcoholism in their families.

Hester's personality was one of constant service to others, devotion to her family and an ongoing interest and delight in life.

Her brothers, Dr John E and Carole Kyllo and Wes and Jane Ostlund, cousins Nancy Dalton, Jim and Nancy Holmes, their families and all her friends celebrate a life well lived and a life spent in the service of others.

We will all miss her.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and will continue until the 11:00 AM, Memorial Service on Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Faith United Methodist Church.

Pastor Kathleen Zielinski of Asbury United Methodist Church, Duluth, MN will officiate.

Inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
