Howard C. Christensen

October 3, 1921 — June 17, 2011

Howard C. Christensen 89, lifelong Superior area resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Lighthouse of Superior Assisted Living surrounded by family and friends.

He was born in Superior on October 3, 1921, the son of Niels and Martha (Howard)Christensen.

Howard graduated from Superior Central High School and attended the former Superior State Teachers College, UWS and Superior Vocational School (WITI).

He married Bernice Britz on March 5, 1946 in Duluth, MN and had celebrated sixty-one years of marriage before her passing in 2007.

Howard was employed by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Grain Commission for thirty-five years retiring as Chief of the Grain Commission.

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Poplar.

He was also a member of the Masonic Superior Lodge, #236; the ADD Temple, Duluth; Superior Shrine Club; Superior Elk’s Lodge #403; the PEU Club; Amnicon Farmers Union for many years; UCT and the Modern Woodman, State of Wisconsin.

He is survived by his son, Brian (Kristie) Christensen, South Range, WI and several nieces and nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice in 2007; one daughter, Catherine; his parents, Niels and Martha Christensen; five sisters, Elizabeth Christensen, Nora Smith, Rose Nyman, Viola Schick and Pearl Friis; and one brother, Cassius Christensen.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Peace Lutheran Church, Poplar and continue until the 11:30 AM Funeral service with Pastor Greg Gullicksrud, officiating.

Burial will be in Poplar Cemetery, Poplar, WI.

Should friends desire, Memorials may be made in Howard’s name to Essentia Health, St. Mary’s Hospice, Duluth, Minnesota.

Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 East 5th Street, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
