Howard O. Geving, 91, Ashland, WI and formerly of Superior, WI, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center in Ashland, WI.
Howard was born on June 13, 1918 in rural Trego, WI, the son of the late Ole and Hazel Geving.
Howard worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC’s) in the 1930’s, the Globe Shipyard as a welder, the Northern Pacific Railroad as a carman, and the Great Northern and Burlington Railroad as a switchman before his retirement in 1979.
Howard had a deep love for his wife Elvina with whom he shared sixty-two years of marriage until her passing in 2006. He enjoying singing and playing music, being outdoors in the seasons of Wisconsin, time spent with his family, and a good home cooked meal. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and a serious Packers and Brewers fan.
Survivors include two daughters and a son, Judy Wheeler, Washburn, WI, Linda Startzel, Tampa, FL and Robert Geving, Eau Claire, WI; two grandsons, Stewart (Patty) Goldberg, Superior, Steve Swanson, Tampa, FL; two great-granddaughters, Brittany and Brandie Goldberg; one great-grandson, Ryan Swanson; brother, Ray Geving, Trego, WI and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Ole Geving, his stepmother, Marie Geving, his loving wife, Elvina (Tappen) Geving, his sisters, Irene Swenson and Olive Gallery, both of Trego, WI, and Helen Grimes, Chula Vista, CA and many dear friends.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Thursday, November 12, 2009 in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior and continue until the 11:00 AM memorial service with Pastor Charles Plaster of Concordia Lutheran Church officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff of Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center who lovingly cared for Howard to the very end.
