Ione E. Carroll

Ione E. Carroll, 83, longtime area resident, died Monday, May 1, 2017 in Superior, WI. She was born September 10, 1933 in Hayward, WI, the daughter of Horace and Florence (McPeak) Sickler.

Ione married Allen Carroll September 26, 1953 and they celebrated fifty-five years of marriage before his passing in 2009. Together they operated Ma & Pa Rocker’s Campground and 4x4 trail rides in Lake Nebagamon for many years. They became foster parents in 1973.

She was a member of a snowmobile and homemakers club. She was also active with the Central High School 1951 Reunion, and was the president of the women’s Volunteer Fire Auxiliary in Superior, as well as a 4-H Club Leader.

She is survived by her son, Edward (Anna) Carroll, Lake Nebagamon, WI; foster son, David (Star) Polaski, Superior, WI; seven grandchildren, Penny (Tom) Hautajarvi, Duluth, MN, Billy and James Carroll of Superior, WI, Tracey (Vince) Parish, Harvey, ND, Amanda Carroll, Dresser, WI, Ricky Bierd, Superior and Griffin Strycharske, Superior, WI; great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Tyler Hautajarvi; sister, Lois (Everett) Johnson, Manteno, IL and nephew, Dale Johnson, Kankakee, IL.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Allen; daughters, Beth Ann 1954 and Cynthia Ray 1959; sons, Ronald John 1965 and Robert 2009; niece, Jewell Ann Johnson, parents and great-grandson, Kaleb Hautajarvi.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM Saturday, May 6, 2017 in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior, WI and will continue until the 1:00 PM Celebration of Life with pastor Richard Blood officiating.
