Irene C. Lavalley

Irene C. LaValley, 86, Superior, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2014 at the Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on September 22, 1927 in Superior to Joseph and Mary (Cupora) Gella.

She graduated from the former Central High School. She married Emanuel “Pete” LaValley on February 12, 1947 in Superior and celebrated 66 years of marriage.

Prior to having children, Irene was employed at Newberry’s Dime Store.
She enjoyed traveling, socializing, cooking and crocheting afghans for family members.

Irene was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

In addition to her husband Pete, Irene is survived by one son, Dennis (Sharon) LaValley, Superior; daughter-in-law, Karen LaValley; five grandchildren, Tara (John) Ninmann, Kristin (Glen) Ritter, Andrew (Yvette) LaValley, Shawn (Michelle) LaValley, Dustin (Jennifer) LaValley; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Margie Anecki and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son James “Jim”; four sisters, Mary Pollock, Julie Dyleski, Theresa Dembroski and Elaine Walker and four brothers, Joseph, John, Michael and Frank Gella.

Irene's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center and Essentia Health/St. Mary's Hospice for their wonderful care.


Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and will continue until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Superior on Saturday, September 20, 2014 with Fr. John Petrich as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Pallbearers for the service will be her grandsons, Shawn, Dustin, Andrew and Nathan LaValley, John Ninmann and Glen Ritter.
