Jacquelyn B. "Jacquie" Shykes

Jacquelyn B. “Jacquie” Shykes, 58, lifelong Superior resident, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Superior Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Superior, May 10, 1961, the daughter of Jack and Beth L. (McLean) Shykes.

She graduated from Superior Senior High School in 1979, and worked as a Health Unit Coordinator at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN for many years.

Jacquie enjoyed the outdoors, sunshine and spending hours in her beautiful gardens. She also had a talent for redecorating. She loved spending time with her family and friends; especially her grandbabies, and she adored her K-9 companion, Sammy.

She is survived by her daughters, Amanda (Jamie) Appleby, Poplar, WI, and Dianna (Neil) Welsand, Superior, WI; mother, Beth L. Shykes, Superior, WI; grandchildren, Cade, Kylie, Hunter K., Hunter A., Jayden, Hudson, Mayzie, Akaiya, Ellie, and baby Welsand, (due August 2020); the father of her children, Duane A. Peterson, Hawthorne, WI; sisters, Peggy (Greg) Day, and Amy (Tony Lancour) Nichols; brothers, Kurt (Jean) Shykes, St. Francis, MN, and Todd Shykes, Superior, WI.

She is preceded in death by her father, John E. “Jack” Shykes; brother, Douglas Shykes; and her beloved K-9 companion, Cleo.

A Time of Remembrance will be held from 1:00-3:00 PM, Friday, March 6, 2020, at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5 ^th Street, Superior, with a Celebration of Life Service to begin at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci officiating.
