James R. “Jim” Baker, 83, lifelong Superior area resident passed away on January 21, 2016 in Superior. He was born on July 27, 1932 in Superior, Wisconsin, the son of William and Elise “Lizzy” (Schiller) Baker.
James was married to Nancy J. Hagen on October 17, 1953 and had recently celebrated sixty-two years of marriage before his passing. He was employed by the Superior Water Light and Power as a Service Tech.Jim was a member of the Electrical Union; Jim served as chairman of the Douglas County Republican Party and was a lifelong Republican.Jim served his country in the National Guard.
He enjoyed fishing and making his own flies and poles. James also loved Photography, cross country skiing, spending time with family and friends, traveling and a good game of cribbage. Jim loved spending time at his cabin at Lake Nebagamon and fishing with his grandson, Eric.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Superior; two daughters, Julie (Dave) Christianson, Superior, WI and Lauri (Randy) Keuhler, Wassilla, Alaska; two sons, Kevin Baker, Superior, Wi and Michael and (Elena) Baker, Lafayette, Louisiana; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Jim is also survived by a brother, Willard “Bill” (Ruth) Baker, Palmetto, Florida.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Verna Baker; three brothers, Harry, Ray and Russell Baker and his grandson, Eric Christianson.
The family is planning Memorial service for a later date.
