James Calvin Asbury

James “Jim” Calvin Asbury, 73, of Pearland, TX, former longtime Superior resident, died Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospice Unit in Duluth, MN. He was born in Superior August 17, 1945, the son of Daniel and Betty (Tapp) Asbury.

He was a graduate of Superior’s East High School, class of 1963, and he and his beloved wife, Maureen were recognized as homecoming king and queen. He served his country honorably in the United States Airforce during Vietnam.

Jim married the love of his life, Maureen Kitchen in May of 1964 and they celebrated fifty-four years of marriage before his passing.

He worked as a Corrections Officer for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for many years before his retirement.

He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Superior and the V.F.W., Sgt. John Rice Post #6316 in Blaine, MN. He enjoyed reading and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. He also enjoyed camping and spending time with his brothers at Breezy Point Resort and was an avid hockey fan.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maureen, Superior, WI; sons, James E. Asbury, Jeff Asbury, and Jerry (Alicia) Asbury; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Ann) Asbury, Blaine, MN and Leon (Virginia) Asbury, Proctor, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Connie and three young sisters; and a brother.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Faith United Methodist Church, 1531 Hughitt Avenue, Superior, WI, and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service with Rev. Joel Certa-Werner officiating.

Military Honors will be accorded at the church, by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Superior.
