James G. Doherty

James G. Doherty, 86, Superior, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2014 in his home.

He was born on September 15, 1927 in Superior to Harvey and Mary (Nevin) Doherty.

James graduated from the former Cathedral High School.
He married Beverly Jaques on October 25, 1952 and celebrated 48 years of marriage before she passed away on January 21, 2001.

James was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Belgian Club, a former member of the Moose Lodge #606, former member of the International Longshoreman Association and both James and Beverly were members of the St. Francis Travelers Club.


He is survived by three daughters, Patricia Doherty, Superior, Peggy (Nick) Sullivan, Omaha, NE and Jody (Jeff) Soul, Superior; four sons, Michael Doherty, Solon Springs, WI; Mark (Kristin) Doherty, Ashland, WI, Andrew (Donna) Doherty, St. Cloud, MN and Steven Doherty, Dickinson, ND; eight grandchildren, Kayla Soul, Devin Soul, Shana Soul, Mason Doherty, Mitchell Doherty, Maxwell Doherty, Alexander Doherty and Hannah Doherty; one great-granddaughter, Riley Soul; two sisters, Margery Doherty, St. Paul, MN and Barbara Doherty, Superior and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Beverly, James is preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, Fern Hanson, Frances Fox, Phyllis Anderson, Judith Kornstad, Margaret Doherty and two brothers, Thomas and Henry Doherty.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Friday, May 30, 2014 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home with a Scripture Service scheduled for 6:30 PM that evening.

Visitation will continue at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 31, 2014 and will continue until the 11:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski and Rev. Fr. Lee Flaherty as concelebrants.

Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Pallbearers for the service will be James’ grandchildren.
