James (Jim) Paul Anderson
James Paul Anderson, 75, lifelong Poplar resident, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, November 26, 2016 (after a long battle with Parkinson’s) at Villa Marina Nursing Home in Superior, WI. He was born on May 18, 1941 in Superior to Leslie and Linnea Anderson.
He graduated from Northwestern High School in Maple in 1959. He went on to earn a degree in math and physics from UW-Superior in 1965.
One of Jim’s greatest joys was working on the family farm in Poplar for most of his life and into his retirement. He worked for United Steel in Duluth as an Industrial Engineer for 23 years and as the Operations Manager for Century Trucking for almost 20 years. He worked the last 7 years of his career for the United States Postal Service before retiring in 2006. He enjoyed being involved in the community, and spent many years on the Maple School Board. He was also a long term member of Mission Covenant Church.
He married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Johnson, in 1963 and they recently celebrated 53 years of marriage.
Jim is survived by those who loved him dearly and will miss him greatly: His loving wife, Carolyn, four sons, Kurt (Anne) Anderson, Wasilla, Alaska, Kraig (Anne) Anderson, Poplar, Kyle (Stephanie) Anderson, Altoona, and Nathan (Tara) Anderson, Superior. Two daughters, Kim (Scott) Pearson, Poplar and Kara (Frank) Hietala, Poplar; 13 grandchildren, Paige (Luke) Wieker, Brooke Pearson, Brent (Cali) Anderson, Tyler (Bethany) Anderson, Cole, Kennedy, Hayden, Sydney, Ava, Hadley, Piper, Bryndel, and Aria Anderson; two great grandchildren, Emma, Thaddeus and Clayton James Anderson, due to arrive in January; one brother, Ronald (Sandy) Anderson, and two sisters, Beverly (Clark) Parsons, and Patricia (Peter) Jessup, and dear family friend Jeanne Ellison. All of these he loved and touched deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Linnea Anderson, and will be joyfully welcomed into heaven by many family members and special friends.
Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, traveling playing softball and watching the Green Bay Packers. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family and always made them a priority. He instilled in his children a commitment to faith and family. He was the pitcher for the church softball team for nearly 40 years and loved the camaraderie and fun of playing every Tuesday night during the summer months. He also loved traveling with his family to many places throughout the United States.
