James "Jim" P. Degraef

James P. “Jim” DeGraef, 68, Maple resident, died on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at his home. He was born on June 19, 1947 in Superior, WI to Clifford and Beverly (LaJoie) DeGraef.

Jim was a brakeman for the Burlington Northern Railroad for many years.

He married June A. Suominen on October 5, 1976 in Duluth, MN and they celebrated thirty-nine years of marriage.


He was a member of the UTU affiliated with the railroad and the Superior Men’s Bowling Association. He enjoyed trapshooting and won numerous awards throughout the years. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing of all kinds. Jim will be remembered for his daily and accurate record keeping of oil and gas prices for many years. He also enjoyed many old TV westerns and TV series that Jim not only watched but was able to recite.

Jim is survived by his wife June; one daughter, Kristal (Jon) Massier, Maple, WI; one son, Matt DeGraef, Ely, MN; his mother, Beverly “Bev” DeGraef, Superior, WI; three sisters, Roberta Jean Lee and Valerie (Blane) Bacon, both of NY and Jeanette (Dennis) Olson,, WI; five brothers, Peter, South Range, WI, Edward, Louis, Michael and Ronald DeGraef all of Superior and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, brother Wayne DeGraef and uncle Dick Coda who he was particularly close to.

Per Jim’s wishes no public services will be held.
