James Lamar “Jim” Lamb, 73, Superior, died on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 after a courageous battle with lung cancer at his residence. He was born on December 8, 1939 in Du Bois, PA to Norman L. and Evelyn Lamb.
Jim graduated from Lawrence Park High School in 1959 and was very proud of the fact he played fullback and was co-captain on the 1958 LPHS team that was undefeated. In September, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. Jim was honorably discharges from the U.S. Coast Guard in September 1963.
He enrolled in the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN in the Machine Design/Drafting course. After graduating he accepted a position with Carnation Can Company, Oconomowoc, WI and later moved to a small manufacturing company in Milwaukee.
Jim and Karen Polaski were married in Bayfield on June 27, 1964 and recently celebrated forty-nine years of marriage.
In 1967, Jim and Karen and daughter Tina moved to Superior.
He accepted a position at the National Iron Company, Pettibone Corporation in Duluth, MN. He was fortunate to be able to travel the U.S., Europe and the Middle East throughout his career with Pettibone. He was a Corporate V.P. when he left his position in 1987. In 1989, Jim was hired by Zenith Dredge to develop a complete line of Engineered Wood I-Joists and Insulated Headers for the home building industry. He worked for Superior Wood Systems as General Manager until 2004, at which time he retired.
In retirement, Jim pursued his interest in woodcarving. He enjoyed playing racquetball, golfing, hunting and fishing on his boat out of Port Wing, WI. Jim loved his family.
He is preceded in death by his father, sister Janice, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Andy and Fern Polaski, and brother-in-law Richard Polaski.
Jim is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters, Christina “Tina” (Jon) Nelson, Bayfield, WI and Jennifer Ann (Chris) Swanson, Duluth, MN; granddaughter, Andie Marie Swanson, Duluth, MN; his mother, Evelyn Lamb, Harborcreek, PA; sisters, Gail Bowman, No East, PA and Coleen Crawford, Chesapeake, VA; several nieces and a nephews and numerous relatives in PA.
The family requests no flowers.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Jim’s name to the Bayfield Volunteer Fire Department or to Cathedral School.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, 1111 Belknap Street, Superior and continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.
Burial will be at a later date.
