James "Jim" D. Murray

James D. “Jim” Murray, 90, lifelong Superior resident, died Friday, March 19, 2010 in his home.

He was born on December 24, 1919 in Superior to John N. and Elizabeth (Leahy) Murray.


Jim was a graduate of Superior Cathedral High School and had attended Superior State Teachers College.


He had been employed as a plumber and steamfitter, retiring in 1984. He had been a working partner with brothers, Frank and John at Superior Plumbing and Heating.


Jim was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific Theatre.


He was a member of the Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, Thomas F. Stein V.F.W. Post No. 1091 and Plumbers and Steamfitters International Union Local No. 11.


He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Francis, John and George, sisters, Katherine Dwyer and Sister (Helen) Marcille F.S.P.A. of La Crosse, WI, sons, infant Dennis, Timothy and Michael, daughter, Jane Fonger and grandson, Paul S. Johnson.


He is survived by daughter, Kathleen “Kathy” Johnson of Superior, WI; sons, John N. (Greta Ann) Murray of Gordon, WI, Bill Murray of Superior, WI, Donald (Carolyn) Murray of Superior, WI, Steven (Sue) Murray of Gordon, WI and Tracey (Mary Kay) Murray of Superior, WI; grandchildren, Michael Fonger, Jr. of Madison, WI, Mathew Fonger of Duluth, MN, Mark and Brett Murray, both of Superior, WI, Chad and Nicholas Murray , both of Gordon, WI, Annisa (Bart) Baker of Lodi, WI, Michele (Norman) Trapp of Gordon, WI, Chantal (Matt) McGee of Cimarron, CO, Janie Marie Murray of Gordon, WI, Pauline (Dustin) Carlson of Duluth, MN and Laura Jeanne (Jason) Powless of Belleville, WI; many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be on Thursday, March 25, 2010 from 6 PM until the 7 PM Memorial Service in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church officiating.

Inurnment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, New Richmond, WI. Military honors will be accorded by Thomas F. Stein VFW Post No. 1091 and Richard I. Bong American legion Post No. 435 Combined Color Guard.
