James “Jim” E. Norkunas, 75, longtime Superior area resident, currently of Solon Springs, WI resident died on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at his home. He was born on June 13, 1941 in Superior, WI to Charles and Bertha (Korach) Norkunas.
Jim graduated from the former East High School and attended M.A.T.C. – Milwaukee Area Technical College in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed as a line foreman for the Head of the Lakes Electric Co-op retiring as an electrical lineman at 59 with over thirty years of service. Jim was a member of IBEW and the Elks Lodge #403 in Superior.
He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting with his family. He will be remembered for being an intelligent jack of all trades. He also loved working on cars.
Jim is survived by one daughter, Jane Elizabeth (Joe) Norkunas Gerber, Superior, WI; one son, James Michael Norkunas, Solon Springs, WI; three grandchildren, Ellie Jo Gerber, Jacey Noel Norkunas and Jameson John Norkunas, all of Superior, WI and one great-grandson, Jackson Ross Judkins.
He is preceded in death by son John Edward in 1990, grandson Wayde Michael Gerber, his father who died in the Battle of the Bulge when he was three years old, his mother and stepfather Edward James Paulus and two brothers Charles Marion Norkunas and Michael Peter Paulus.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at United Presbyterian Church, 229 N. 28th Street, Superior and continue until the 12:30 PM memorial service with Pastor Joel Huenemann officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at a later date.
