James T. Maki

James T. “Jimmy Angel” Maki, 69, Poplar, died unexpectedly in his home on Sunday, September 11, 2011.

He was born on October 4, 1941 in Superior to Toivo E. and Ruth (Katila) Maki.

He graduated from Northwestern High School and attended U.W.S. taking classes in business.

Jim was employed as a general foreman for General Mills Foods in Poplar for many years before retiring in 2007. He had also previously been employed at Twin Ports Grocery and Koppers Industries.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved golfing. He was also a big, big Packer fan, also Wisconsin Badgers and Milwaukee Brewers were very important to him.

He loved spending time with family and friends. He was very charitable to his community and enjoyed reading and staying up on current events.

Jim is survived by one daughter, Michelle (Peter) Weidner, Micanopy, FL; four sons, Michael Maki, Maple, WI, Craig (Heidi) Maki, South Range, WI, Chris Maki, Esko, MN, Joey (Dawn) Johnson, Duluth, MN; nine grandchildren; Courtney Maki, Jesse Maki, Michael Maki II, Zachary Weidner, Hailey Weidner, Mason Maki, Nathan Maki, Jade Maki and Alexa Johnson; one sister, Judy (Don) Berube, Maple; one niece, Tara (Justin) Howland; two great-nieces, Autumn and Ava Howland.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will begin at 12 o’clock noon until the 1:00 PM Memorial Service on Friday, September 16, 2011 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home. Pastor Patrick Ziems, of Zion Lutheran Church, will officiate.

Jim’s grandchildren will be recognized as honorary pallbearers.
