James "Moose" D. Samuelson

James D. “Moose” Samuelson, 80, Superior, and former longtime Port Wing, WI resident, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.

He was born on May 28, 1935 in Port Wing, WI to George and Ann (Carrow) Samuelson.

James graduated from the South Shore High School.

He worked for Hedenberg Trucking as a truck driver for sixteen years and prior to that for KRS Trucking for many years and most recently for RJS Construction.

James married Rosemary Wnek on August 27, 1966 in Port Wing, WI and celebrated forty-nine years of marriage.

He was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Port Wing, WI.
He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and winter picnics. He enjoyed playing smear at the South Shore Bar every morning.

He will be fondly remembered for his jokes and sense of humor.

James is survived by his wife, Rosemary, Superior, WI; two daughters, Diane (Dan) Newes, North Branch, MN and Penny Samuelson, Superior, WI; one son, David “Q-Ball” (Deb) Olson, Iron River, WI; seven grandchildren, Aaron, Shelly, Eric, John, Joe, Josie and Amelia; six great-grandchildren, Kylee, Lexi, Wyatt, Haley, Alexia and Charlee and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Ann Laverne Reijo.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, February 26, 2016 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street, Superior.

Visitation will resume at 12:00 PM at the First Lutheran Church in Port Wing, WI on Saturday, February 27, 2016, and continue until the 2:00 PM memorial service with Rev. Nancy Hanson officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Port Wing, WI at a later date.
