James “Jim” D. Pleau, 70, lifelong area resident, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, with his family by his side, at Twin Ports Health in Superior. He was born in Superior, WI on July 12, 1953, the son of Raymond and Joyce (Soderlund) Pleau. Jim joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam war. He also worked as a supply clerk in Thailand and spent time in Japan, Iwa Kuni, and Okinawa as well. Jim served his country honorably until he was discharged in 1996. He was a member of the American Legion Post 435 Honor Guard and a lifelong member of the Northland Vietnam Veterans Association, where he served on the board of directors for seven years. Jim also spent some time as the sexton for the Riverside Cemetery in Superior. The love of Jim’s life was his 1982 650 Yamaha Maximum. He loved to ride and participated in many parades and fundraising rides like Bikers for Boobs. Jim will be forever remembered for always putting a smile on anyone’s face, the way he loved life, and his love of feeding wildlife. Jim is survived by his brother, George (Julie) Pleau; sister Nancy (Richard) Naumann; nieces Melissa DeToffol, Jennifer “Jenny” Rygg, April Truchinski, Susan Allar, and Amanda Naumann; five great nephews; three great nieces; great-great niece, Nina Joy; aunts Lucille and Geogina; and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Ray and Joyce Pleau. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Essentia Hospice and Twin Ports Health in Superior, for the wonderful care they provided James. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th St. in Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service with Pastor Darrell Kyle officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post 435 Honor Guard.
