James R. Sweeney

James R. Sweeney, 80, lifelong Superior resident, died Saturday, November 3, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN following a lengthy battle with Body Inclusive Myositis. He was born in Superior, August 25, 1938, the son of Raymond J. and Mary (Manion) Sweeney.

He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1956 and went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from the University of Wisconsin – Superior. He married the love of his life, Aimee Jondreau in Superior on October 1, 1976 and they celebrated forty-two years of marriage before his passing. James owned and operated Sweeney Material Inc. with his wife Aimee for over thirty years.

He was a member of Holy Assumption Catholic Church in Superior, Superior Knights of Columbus, ASTM - American Society for Testing Methods, CSI Construction Specifiers Institute and the Elks Club #403. He was an avid reader and a keen observer of current events. He had a love for people, and loved being “Irish”.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Aimee; son, Raymond James Sweeney, Brentwood, CA; several grandchildren; brother, Jack (Carolyn) Sweeney, Superior, WI; sister, Mary Susan Budzak, Menomonee, WI; several nieces and nephews; and step son, Marvin (Lori) Johnson, Eau Clarie, WI. He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Timothy Sweeney; and parents.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2316 E. 4 ^th Street, Superior, and will continue until the 11:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski as celebrant.
