James L. White, 91, Superior, died peacefully Friday, December 6, 2019, at Twin Ports Health Services, Superior, Wisconsin, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 9, 1928, in superior to Frank and Agnes White.
Jim married Lila Hjelm on December 27, 1952, in Winter, Wisconsin. They were married 61 years. Lila died in January of 2014.
They moved to Superior in 1977. For many years, he was a member of the Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church where he volunteered in various capacities, and in recent years was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
Jim worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 40 years. He belonged to Mensa and was a proud member of the G. K. Chesterton Society. He was also an avid reader. He wrote poetry and prose, and enjoyed history. He was always quick witted and ready to debate, often both sides of the issue.
Jim is survived by seven children, Mary (Joseph) Hartl, Mokena, Illinois, James (Lynn) White, Greenville, WI, Teresa (Steven) Stauss, Stevens Point, WI, Timothy (Peggy) White, Duluth, MN, Thomas White, Superior, Jean Whtie, Wausau, WI, Kathy White, Superior; 12 grandchildren, Alex Hartl, Jessica Hartl Majcher, Matthew Hartl, Michelle Miller, Chad White, Marlene White, Leah White, Tim Abicht, Benjamin Anderson, Cortney Duffy, Gaelynn Tressler, Gregory White; 11 great-grandchildren, Cole, Kyan, Kira, Naomi, Liam, Elijah, Alma, Sullivan, Calvin, Gabriel and Micah.
He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel, his wife, Lila, his sister, Mary and his brothers, Robert and Jack.
Visitation will begin at 7:00 PM, Monday, December 9, 2019, at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 East 5 th Street, Superior, with a scripture service to be held at 8:30 PM. Visitation will resume at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2316 East 4 th Street, Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. William Fider as celebrant.
Pallbearers for the service will be Jim’s sons and sons-in-law.
Burial will be in Radisson, WI, at a later date.
He will be greatly missed!
