James G. Wright

James G. Wright, 67, Brule, WI, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN with his son by his side. He was born on July 13, 1947 in Eau Claire, WI to Donald and Selina (Gilbertson) Wright.

Jim graduated from Memorial High School in Eau Claire in 1965.

He married Su Gilchrist and together they had one son Jeffrey.

He was a sheet metal apprentice for four years at Eau Claire Sheet Metal and upon moving to Brule, he was employed at Shorty and Sons Sheet Metal as a foreman and was a member of the sheet metal union.

Jim left the sheet metal industry and began training as an insurance agent for Rookey Insurance in Solon Springs, WI. He spent the majority of his career at the RJF Agency in Hayward, WI.

After moving to Brule, he met and married Pat DeMoe.

Jim donned both water skis and jumping skis at an early age. He was a member of both the Flying Eagles and the Eau Claire Ski Club. In his later skiing years, he spent much of his time at Hendrickson Hill in Eau Claire and was a member of the US Ski Jumping Team. Jim qualified as an first alternate for the U.S. Olympic Ski Team in Lake Placid, NY in 1968. He spent his summers with the Eau Claire Ski Sprites. He was best known as an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed most of his time fly fishing on the Brule and salmon fishing in Alaska.

Jim is survived by one son Jeff Wright, Soldotna, AK; one brother Richard Wright, Washburn, WI; one sister, Carol (Philip) Mosel, Eau Claire, WI; one brother-in-law, Vic (Lee) DeMoe, Eau Claire, WI; two nephews and three nieces; two stepdaughters, Robin Harvey, Iron River, WI and Colleen Miller, Poplar and eight step-grandchildren. He leaves behind many of his hunting and fishing buddies with whom he spent endless hours on the river and in the woods.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Gilbert and Louise Gilbertson and James and Nora Wright; a nephew Eric Mosel ; a sister-in-law, Polly Wright; former wife, Pat DeMoe Wright; and a step-daughter, Dawn Alexson.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Brule, WI with Pastor Sarah Kerkes of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, officiating.
