Jane Eleanor Bergquist, 74, of Twig, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021, in Essentia St. Mary's Medical Center. She was born in Duluth on Aug. 10, 1947, to Betty (St. George) and Joseph Jugasek. She was a lifelong Duluth and Twig resident and was a graduate of Proctor High School in 1965.
Jane was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a long-time daycare provider in her home, caring for hundreds of children, all of whom she loved. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Twig and a former member of the Grand Lake Volunteer Fire Dept., being its first female member and first female First Responder.
Jane had a wonderful sense of humor and would always make a joke or have a song to go with everything. She had a song to sing with everything we said or were talking about. She was an extraordinary cook and loved making Christmas cookies, jam, her famous rye bread, fudge, and caramel corn. She also taught Paul how to cook!
Jane enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing at Finlayson Resort, Atikokan, Ontario, where they had a camper, and she loved flower gardening.
She loved watching the Price Is Right, never missing a day, Hallmark and Lifetime on television, and her favorite movies were The Great Outdoors and The Notebook. She enjoyed eating yogurt every morning, cottage cheese with pineapple every afternoon, and watching birds, squirrels, deer, and a wild turkey for the past four years where she spent most of her time in the home she helped build.
Jane loved when children and grandchildren would come for a visit, but her greatest joy was her family, whom she loved with all her heart. She especially loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Richard and Grandparents, Esther and Pearly Klawitter, who helped raise her for several years.
Jane is survived by her loving and longtime caregiver husband, of 47 years, Paul; children, Jason (Rachel) and their son, Joseph of Saginaw, Jodi (Bradley) VanValkenburg of Saginaw and their children, Jared (Tabitha), Brenan and Ramsey, Heidi (Scott) McLeod of Saginaw and their children, Nolan and Neelah, Heather Solorzano of Blaine and her children, Sofia and Chloe, and Mark of Saginaw and his children, Jordan, Haley and Aaron; brother, John (Sylvia) Jugasek; half-brothers, Robert Ecklund, Tad Janczak, and Steve Jugasek; half-sister, Non (Rusty) Hendrickson; great-granddaughter, Lorelei VanValkenburg; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
