Janet Michela Cage passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Our Lady of Peace Hospice Residence in St. Paul MN after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Janet was born on November 21, 1950 to Duncan Stewart Cage and Mary Alice Trifilette in Superior WI.
She attended Cathedral Catholic elementary and high school, graduating in 1969. She earned a B.A. degree in English from UW-Superior in 1973. After adventures in New Jersey where she landed a job as an underwriter for a large insurance company, she returned to Minneapolis and continued working in the insurance industry in claims and marketing. She retired in 2007 as a Vice-President from the Robert Schneider Insurance Agency in Minnetonka MN.
She loved the Minneapolis area with its upbeat scene, four seasons, and proximity to her mother who lived in Superior. In 2001, she purchased a townhome in Hopkins and enjoyed its small-town atmosphere. She had a special place in her heart for her two cats—Brianna and Maggie--who both lived to be 16. Janet was an avid reader all her life, exploring fantasy fiction and nonfiction that emphasized the cultivation of gratitude for one’s blessings. Though she never formally studied psychology, she had a keen interest in people, their thinking and the motivations behind their actions. Many family and friends describe her as a “consummate conversationalist” and an “excellent storyteller.” She was her mother’s daughter: strong, independent, thrifty, and loving and caring. She kept in contact with many old friends, especially Linda Beecher Zahn, Elisabeth Banks, Patricia LeSage Johnson, Mary Dowd, and Brenda Strom and special cousins Rosann Cahill and Sally Trifilette Augustin.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents. She will be sadly missed by her sister Susan Meyers, brother-in-law Ken (Gus) Meyers, and numerous cousins.
Janet’s family would like to express appreciation for the care provided her by Our Lady of Peace Hospice staff. Our Lady of Peace is funded by private donations and is worthy of support: https://ourladyofpeacemn.org/donate/ .
