Janice C. Ackerson

Janice C. Ackerson, 75, longtime Superior area resident, died Monday, February 26, 2018 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. She was born in July 8, 1942 on Scott Airforce Base in Belleville, IL, the daughter of William and Ethel (Klein) Hunter.

She graduated from the former East High School in Superior, and went on to receive her Registered Nursing Degree from Nurse’s College in Bellville, IL.

Janice married Roy Lawrence Ackerson in Superior on December 16, 1967, and they recently celebrated fifty years of marriage before her passing.

She worked as a registered nurse at Parkland Health Care Facility for many years.

She was a member of Central Assembly of God church in Superior, and donated her time volunteering in the community as a foster grandparent, and for the International Children’s Relief Fund and the Salvation Army.

She loved reading and spending time at the library. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends on the family farm in Solon Springs, WI. She was also an exhibitor of Rabbits at the Tri-State Fairgrounds for many years, and loved Elvis and Johnny Cash. She also enjoyed reading books, and the church, baseball, bull riding, and figure skating. She loved painting and drawing, and her favorite color was purple.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Roy l. Ackerson, Oregon; daughters, Tia (Roger) Hankins, Solon Springs, WI, RoiAnn Dunning, Bennett, WI, and Jenny Ackerson, Superior, WI; sons, Roy M. (April) Ackerson, Oregon, David Ackerson, Superior, and Dominic Ackerson, Solon Springs, WI; eighteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Bev (James) Learn, Superior, WI, and Dea Hunter, Duluth, MN; brother, James P. Hunter, Superior, WI; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother William.

A Celebration of Janice’s Life will be held from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Central Assembly of God, 3000 Hammond Avenue, Superior, with a Time of Remembrance to follow at 12:00 PM.

Honorary pallbearers will be Roy M. Ackerson, David L. Ackerson, Dominic S. Ackerson, James Learn, Charles Learn, William Hunter III, Christopher Shanda, Andrew Dunning, Justin Dunning, Paul Dunning and James P. Hunter.

The family is requesting that family and friends honor Janice by wearing purple on her funeral day.
