Jean Herbert

Jean Herbert, 77, longtime East End Superior resident, died Monday, January 29, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN unexpectedly surrounded by family. She was born on December 23, 1940 in Superior, WI to Russell and Mae (Easty) Levine.

Jean married Merlin Herbert on March 4, 1967 and they celebrated fifty years of marriage. Jean loved flower gardening, collecting beanie babies, dirt track racing and NASCAR. She will be remembered for being an impeccable housekeeper and loving grandmother. Jean enjoyed spending time with her family and friends especially her grandchildren.

Jean is survived by her husband, Merlin; two sons, Scott (Kris) Herbert, La Crosse, WI and Mike (Angela) Herbert, Hawthorne, WI; three sisters, Carol Mae Gehl, Hawthorne, WI, Rosa Lee (Bill) Jones, Superior, WI and Toni Sue (Ret. Lt. Colonial Jesse) Hoag, Hampton, VA; five brothers, Russell (Carole) Levine, South Range, WI, Charles (Carol Ann) Levine, Shell Lake, WI, Lowell (Theresa) Levine, South Range, WI, Randy (Carolyn) Levine, Lake Nebagamon, WI and Kevin (Barbara) Parker, St. Paul, MN; two grandchildren, Jesse (Trinity) Rolandson, Stacy, MN and Lila Herbert; and a great-grandchild due in May; several nieces and nephews; and her loving K-9 companions, Herbie, Brooke and Tori. She is preceded in death by her son, Shawn E. Herbert in 2005.

A Celebration of Jean’s Life and Time of Remembrance will be held from 11:00 – 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 3, 2018 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5 ^th Street, Superior.  Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hawthorne, WI at a later date.  Pallbearers for the service will be Jean’s nephews, Todd Gehl, Troy Gehl, Brad Jones, Bill Jones, Jeff Jones, Steve Levine, Kelly Levine and Trevor Levine. Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Jones and Jesse Rolandson.
