Jean D. Hooker

Jean D. Hooker, 90, longtime resident of South Range, WI, died peacefully of heart failure on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Twin Ports Health Services in Superior, WI.

She was born in Duluth, MN, March 30, 1934, the daughter of Barney and Elsie (Markon) Ritter.

Jean was united in marriage to John Hooker and together they celebrated forty years of marriage before his passing in 2023.

Jean loved horseback riding and competing in horse shows. Over the years, she enjoyed raising poodles and shelties, and she especially enjoyed gardening and being outdoors.

What Jean loved most was her family. She enjoyed her years spent as loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be sadly missed by all who knew her and by her faithful canine companion, Tina.

She is survived by her sons, Daniel Ray Ziegler, San Francisco, CA, Kelly Ziegler, Alborn, MN, Joseph David Ziegler, Duluth, MN; stepdaughter Deanne Hooker; grandchildren, Rhett, Allie, and Chevra Ziegler, and step-grandchildren, Breanne (Jens Gregerson) Tapani, and Jadon (Jenna) Stone.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Hooker, sisters Velma Flemming and Pat Massie, and brother, Roger Ritter.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 15, 2024, at Greenwood Cemetery, 8402 Tower Avenue, Superior, with Gary Banker officiating.
